About
I’m Mehek, the creator of the Kids & Rainbows blog.
As a mother of 3 children, I strongly feel that kids of the internet, technology and consumerism era have a stronger need for experiencing mindful and slow living. I believe that kids should benefit from the positives that this internet era has to offer, but never at the cost of dulling the child’s imagination. I noticed that when a child is exposed to a toy that is tied to a tv/movie character or a toy that requires screens and batteries to operate fails to engage his creative fantasy. This made me take my first step towards mindful living for kids through the power of mindful play. I started promoting a concept where children build their own toys and imagine their own stories.
While I was trying to create a mindful childhood for my children through play, I came across the works of David Elkind, John Holt and Rudolf Steiner. I read about their philosophies, applied my learning and observed my children. I was amazed to see the kind of ingenuity that children carry. These great thinkers and writers helped me to look at children’s thought process in a different light. I started looking at their creativity as something that is not just limited to pretend play, but it has the power to change the world.
Solutions to solve world problems or advancements in any field of knowledge are all a result of innovative thinking. Children’s power of imagination through play during childhood can impact their problem-solving skills in adulthood. I realised that we as parents can help to inspire the next generation of change makers just by promoting imaginative play and creative learning at home during childhood.
Since then my goal has been to share my discovery with parents around the world through Kids & Rainbows.
If like me, you too believe that kids should benefit from the positives of this technology era, but never at the cost of dulling their imagination, then you are at the right place!
Come in and join along!
Warm Wishes,
Mehek
